Offerings
Our local chapter offers several one-hour programs that we can bring to your organization. Our goal is to increase understanding of the LGBTQ+ community, which will result in more inclusive mental health and medical facilities, work spaces, schools and more. No organization is too small for continuing education!
We specialize in adapting our presentations and materials to the specific needs of your group. Our presenters are non-judgmental, compassionate educators who believe that it is important to continue learning about and celebrating gender identities and sexual orientations represented in our communities.
Let us know if you are interested in hosting one of our presentations, and we will work to accommodate your specific situation. Please contact us at info@pflagwhatcom.org to discuss and schedule your event.
“Demystifying LGBTQ+”
This is a great introduction to LGBTQ+ topics. We start with the basics by covering the difference between sexuality and gender and defining terms. We strive to help you feel more knowledgeable, compassionate and respectful of the LGBTQ+ community.
“Understanding Transgender 101”
This presentation is an introduction to the complex issue of gender. We will cover the concept of gender as a spectrum both biologically and psychologically. Societal issues specific to transgender individuals will be explored and myths will be exposed. You will learn how to treat transgender persons respectfully and as the individuals they are.
“Respecting LGBTQIA+ Diversity in the Workplace”
In this presentation we provide an overview of gender identity and sexual orientation with definition of terms currently in use. The primary focus is on what respectful behavior looks like and what behaviors we should avoid. We discuss the WA state laws that affect the workplace and encourage Human Resources Departments to be proactive with guidelines for employees. We include personal success stories and guidelines for what to do if problems occur.
“How to be an LGBTQIA + Ally”
In this presentation, we give a brief description of gender identity and sexual orientation, including what it is like to be a minority in our binary, heteronormative society. From verbal support to visual opportunities, you will learn many ways to show support to your LGBTQ+ friends, co-workers and family members.
Panel Discussion
Bringing in a panel of 3-6 people to share their story is one of the most powerful training opportunities we offer. Hear the real-life experiences of LGBTQ+ people and allies. We include plenty of time for Q& A.
